The crossroads of tradition and technology
In my home, I have a geothermal system and set of devices for very detailed power monitoring. The cheapest way I've found of monitoring all of that is by using a Barionet 50 from Barix. It includes a host of useful features but the two most important to me is the ability to plug in up to 50 1-wire temperature sensors and that is acts as an RS485 gateway. The 1-wire temperature sensors are used to check the temperature of the geothermal loops and the RS485 gateway let's me interact with my branch circuit monitor via Modbus.
I'll get into the details of the branch circuit monitor another time but this is some sample output of my monitoring system that watches the loop temperatures. If the temps get too high or too low, it tells me so I can be proactive about making sure things don't freeze up and fail on me. (Why I have to go to such lengths to make sure equipment doesn't fail is a topic for another day)
